Arbitron Mobile – Business Review
Arbitron Mobile Trends is a marketing and research app (application) for mobile devices that offers surveys you can take in exchange for some rewards. The surveys deal mostly with shaping mobile services and apps and helping improve the mobile industry. They operate out of Finland.
Mobile Trends uses aggregated and anonymous statistics to research and develop products and services for mobile app usage, and also to understand how smart phones and mobile apps are utilized today by consumers.
During your participation you will be eligible for various benefits, such as cash payments and a prize draw. You automatically make five dollars per month just for keeping the app installed on your mobile device and staying on as a panelist.
Arbitron Mobile offers cash payments through PayPal and a prize draw for taking part in their surveys. You need to download and install the application on your mobile device.
Here’s where you might run into some issues with whatever device you install the Arbitron Mobile research app. Most apps tend to run your mobile device’s battery down rapidly, and this app will drain the power too.
It is disturbing that this app works to read the SMS data and can see calls you’ve made. It can also read messages on the SIM chip in your mobile device. There may be charges to your service that would cost you money.
Since it sends SMS messages to Arbitron Mobile survey panels, you need to read carefully what you agree to before installing the app. Keep in mind some apps can track your location through the network and/or GPS.
Some malicious apps can read and send your data, including your contact list calendar, etc., to other people without your knowledge. Certain apps can also read system logs and even change or reconfigure wi-fi networks.
If you do your banking through your mobile device you should be very careful which third party apps you install on your phone or tablet. In fact, any sensitive data in your system should be protected from malware and hackers at all times.
Am I saying that the Arbitron Mobile app will do malicious things to your service? No, but I would be careful anyway. It isn’t that difficult to extract data if one is a professional identity thief.
For the very small amount that Arbitron Mobile rewards you for participating in their studies, I do not recommend you take a chance with your mobile device and personal data in it.
Thanks for reading…
